Professor Torrell holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery (1980), a specialist in Internal Medicine (1985) and Preventive Medicine and Public Health (1989) and a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery (1991) from the University of Barcelona. Since 2007 he has been Head of the Preventive Medical Service of the University Hospital of Bellvitge at the same time as responsible for the Tobacco Treatment Unit of that hospital. In 2009 he obtained accreditation in advanced research, and in 2012 accreditation to serve as University Professor (ANECA). He was head of studies at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona between 2009 and 2017 and since 1996 he has been a tenured professor at the University of Barcelona. On the other hand, he directs the specialty in Smoking of the Master’s Degree in Advanced Medical Competences of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona. Since the mid-eighties, his research focuses on the field of preventive medicine, international health and the prevention and treatment of smoking.
